Frequently asked questions
Short answers, no hedging.
Why don't my numbers match Shopify Analytics exactly?
Usually they do — and when they can't, we tell you why. The in-app Numbers Audit page maps every PlainProfit figure to its Shopify Analytics counterpart and explains the known definitional differences: timezone day boundaries, refunds booked on refund date, test/POS order handling, and estimated fees for non-Shopify Payments gateways. Every number drills down to the exact orders behind it.
Are the transaction fees real or estimated?
Both — and always labeled. Shopify Payments fees are pulled exactly, to the penny. Orders paid through other gateways (PayPal, manual, etc.) use a rate you control (default 2.9% + $0.30) and are marked "estimated" everywhere they appear, including exports. Your profit-confidence score shows the real/estimated split at all times.
Where does my cost of goods (COGS) come from?
From the "Cost per item" field you already maintain in Shopify. Missing costs? Add them in the app per variant or import a CSV. Costs are snapshotted onto orders when they're ingested, so your historical P&L doesn't silently rewrite itself when costs change — recomputing history is an explicit button, never a surprise.
Do you really not meter orders?
Really. $19/month flat, unlimited orders, every feature. The free plan (up to 50 orders/month) also includes every feature — it's not a crippled teaser. There is no code path in this app that can produce an overage charge.
What about my ad spend?
You enter it (or import CSV) and it's labeled "user-entered" — we don't pretend to sync what we don't sync. Automatic Meta ad-spend import is the first planned addition once it can be done reliably.
What customer data do you store?
None. No names, emails, phones, or addresses — the app's API queries don't even contain those fields. We store order-level financial aggregates only. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
I'm a bookkeeper or agency managing multiple stores. Do I pay per store?
No — that's the point of the Agency plan: $99/month covers up to 10 client stores, each with full Pro features, plus a consolidated portfolio P&L view for you. Email support@plainprofit.app and we'll set you up.
How do I cancel?
Uninstall the app — billing stops automatically through Shopify, and your data is deleted. No exit surveys, no retention flows.
